Ben If you could use it, you're welcome to a spare Apple Laserwriter 300 that I've got. I'm only in Worthing, so you could pop over and pick it up. It's got a serial port so I'm sure you could run it off your Powerbook 3400.
It's one of two I picked up off a fellow list member a few miles away, and the other one is rock solid reliable first via a 7300/200 running 8.6 and now via a 9600/350 also running 8.6. I haven't had to replace the toner and it kicks out BW pages nice and clean until the cows come home. The one I've got spare hasn't been tested and I don't know what the toner situation is, but you're welcome to take it and try it out - if it's what you're after.
