No, it should still work fine, but obviously only at USB 1.1 speeds. The
problem isn't the USB interface, it's all down to whether the OS or
application software recognises it as a supported CDRW or not. I wouldn't be
surprised if it works fine as a generic CD drive, just not as a writer (this
wasn't clear from the original post).

I imagine it's a USB 2 drive. If you have it connected to a USB 1 port, it
won't work.
