It's wasteful of electricity, and adds to the climate-change problem humans have started, to leave electronic devices on standby. Switch off, unplug, save the biosphere!
I agree wholeheartedly with desktops - but current consumption with laptops is somewhat outweighed by so much other carbon fossil consumption.
