These are indeed windows e-mail worms, I get those every day, but I filter all my mail through ClamAV and they get deleted.

If you forward the message (or even just the attachment) to me I'll tell you exactly which worm it is.

My first thought was that I must have been the victim of a spammer who's hijacked my email address, but I've noticed something else.
Know, it just means the worm on a windows machine has managed to find your email address and is trying to propagate itself by sending itself to you - which is pointless, but it doesn't know that.

Once or twice when I've had Safari open and have minimised the main window I've found a smaller window underneath it.
These just sound like pop-under adverts, just like pop-up, only they don't :)
Are you sure you have Block Pop-up Windows checked in the Safari menu?

which is supposed to be virus-free.
There are reports appearing of the first osx trojan - so that may no longer be true. But AFAIK it just deletes files in you're account - nothing so devious as putting adverts up.

BTW it also appears that said trojan masquerades as an mp3 file, and will execute when the mp3 is double clicked to play it. So if you are downloading mp3's from around the net, use iTunes 'Add to library' command instead of double-clicking...

(And that's another thought - this has only started since I upgraded to 10.3 a week or just over ago.)
I just upgraded to panther recently too, and IIRC Safari doesn't block pop-ups by default, you need to turn that on.

In short, I don't think you have anything to worry about.
