Same for me I guess, it was mainly a way to allow my G4 to print to a printer with serial and parallel ports, and still allow the G3 to print to it too. And my impression was that the usb-parallel converters were not particularly reliable.

The fact that you don't need a computer on to share the printer is a bonus. You don't even have to have the printer on, I just turn it on when I need it, though the print server does stay on all the time. FYI its a D-Link DP-301, ok, but you need a windows box to use the graphical interface for configuration. I had to use telnet.

I must just big up d-link tech support whilst I'm talking about this. I picked up the server on e-bay - it was supposed to be 'unused' and whilst it looked that way someone had already set a password (or so I eventually found out), I submitted a couple of tech support requests to their web site, and they eventually *phoned me* and told me the system password to reset the server (had to do that using their windows based software). Once that was done I was able to set it up fine using the telnet interface.

But I'm still amazed that they actually called me to fix this thing I bought on e-bay.
