I need to replace my 700MHz eMac with an iBook what will give me the nearest performance for a reasonable price? Will the 800MHz version have a similar performance or do I save up harder and go for a new 1Gig?

I have a friend who has a 1GHz iMac G4 and a 1GHz iBook G4 (just got it - lucky swine) and he says they are pretty much like for like as performance goes. At 799 though, the iBook is by far the better value as it's also portable. If you use the video adapter plug you can use an iBook on a desktop monitor anyway. If you invest in a full-size keyboard and have a 17" CRT it'd just be like an eMac but with less visual appeal factor ;-)

Finally apart from price are there any real differences between the 12 and 14 inch versions?

IMHO the 14" is a waste of money unless you have an eyesight problem that means you can't read the 12" screen (or think you might develop one in the next 4 years!). Try before you buy at a high street retailer - my favourite would be John Lewis. Other than that and the availability of the SuperDrive (according the Stuart) for 14" models it's not really any different, apart from it's bigger and heavier, which IMHO ruins the iBook's neat factor.
