I don't actually have an external DVD writer yet, but I've been looking at the LaCie d2 drive - I already LaCie D2 FireWire drives. I also have just acquired a MiniDV camcorder, and therefore have a source of material that I hope work on with iMovie and therefore ultimately iDVD. Or I could buy a bundled copy of Toast 6 (?) with the LaCie drive; is that a viable alternative?
I've never looked at this area at all, so I'm also unclear as the the difference between the different DVD write formats: -R and +R, is that right? Finally, on the assumption that I've got some amount of edited footage that I want to share with family & friends, if I don't burn it to DVD what other options do people use? I've read something about 'Video CD'? Is that worth looking at?
I'm talking about 5 or 10 minute 'home movies', not semi-pro work, so perhaps I'm being over-ambitious thinking about DVDs at this stage....
