The target market is (IMHO) iPod users who want to try out the Mac
experience but not at the usual Mac price. Plus, in the short term while
G5 processors are in short supply, maybe Windows users thinking of
switching but finding iMacs unavailable. Existing Mac users would be a
bonus but I would have thought that Apple would be hoping they'd be
buying iMacs or PowerMacs

It could be an own-goal if further down the line the mini affected sales
of the G5 iMac, or even the low-end PowerMac, once IBM can churn out
enough processors. But if sales of these things go ballistic, why would
Apple care? They'd just stick the spare G5s in the minis eventually (mind
you, there's no fan...).

Apple would be a bit miffed though if somebody like Virginia Tech went
for a shedload of these instead of a cluster of G5 XServes ;-) Imagine
how many more you could fit in the same space....I wonder if you could
make up for the performance difference due to the cost/space saving? You
wouldn't need the optional keyboard, mouse, monitor, Bluetooth adapter,
AirPort Extreme card, etc!
