I have 2mb ADSL and its just a web based config
no problems for me with freedom to surf. Whatsoever.
OK Firefox is snappier to config it than Safari

I'll throw my anchor in here.

Firstly the iChatAV problem is very likely, I think at least, not down to the router, but to Mac OS X. It all worked fine for me and Dan Kendell using that very router on both ends of iChatAV connections for a good 6 months but somewhere along the way it stopped working. I suspect Apple changed something in iChatAV or OS X's TCP/IP stack and boobed. Apparently (and this should maybe be taken with a pinch of salt as I read it on MacRumors.com) the 10.4.1 patch (due soon but delayed for the Dashboard fix which almost certainly looks like it WILL be in 10.4.1 according to several sources) contains a patch for 'user issues with certain D-link networking equipment'. I take that to mean D-Link have a minor quirk on their newer DSL routers and other equipment that has conflicted with something Apple have done. At least they spotted it :).

Secondly I would like to say I have absolutely no issues with the DSL-504T (apart from this one and as I explained above I am not currently blaming D-Link ;o) ) or it's elder sibling the DSL-504. I've used both routers extensively and they perform superbly. I used D-Link equipment wherever I can as it offers best value on a quality/ basis. Call me a zealot but I just think there stuff is really good. I've used other non D-Link equipment with much, much worse web interfaces too.

Oh and don't use uPnP, it was co-developed with Microsoft and represents a whacking great security hole. With the right hacking it can be forced to open ports on a router from things like trojans and spyware, if you have any PCs in the house (or maybe Dashboard ;o)).
