Hi everyone,

Hoping someone can help me with this urgent situation...

A friend has asked me to install Panther on his CRT 15" iMac 233 (RAM and HD
were upgraded by me last year to 160 MB RAM, 80 GB HD) and he doesn't have a
backup (yikes!) for the OS 9 partition that is currently being used for
business work. The iMac is running 9.2.2 and runs fine but does not have
firewire or a CD burner.

The problems that I have are that neither he nor I have an OS 9 Toast
program to do a backup locally and when I connect my PB (Tiger, 1.33GHz) to
the iMac by ethernet that functions fine and I can transfer the other files
to a DVD / HD on my PB but when I try to do the System Folder (which is
obviously running on the iMac) then I get permission errors and the files
are not copied over...as they are using this for business work I am loathe
to miss any customised settings or drivers, extensions, etc...they may need.
I do also have an external Sony USB2/Firewire DVD burner but it doesn't show
up on the desktop when connected to the iMac (which obviously only has
USB1.x?)

My question is how can I get a complete System Folder that the iMac is using
over to another HD or CD/DVD by ethernet or external burner? (I do have an
OS 9 install disk still that I could use if that helps? (I remember there
being an option for installing a clean system folder and placing the old one
somewhere else on the HD but have never tried this and don't know if the
entire settings will still be preserved if that system folder is not the
active one, etc...)

Any help would be greatly appreciated! (still like 9 but have things
changed...)

Cheers,

Richard
