I found one mention of it in an Apple forum as an OT comment...

I had a look into the contents of the widget. (spotlight it, then "Show Package
Contents")
There's a script called parser.js that seems to be the thing responsible for
pulling data off a special feed at
 apple.com:
http://wu.apple.com/fq/applewidgets/forex.asp?key=tHisIsApplewidgeTs
The format's an XML file. It seems like the feed was updated recently (5.44pm
+8h as I write this at midni
ght on Saturday) whilst the data on it seems to be from 2nd November.

I'v submitted a bug report to Apple.

Cheers,
Tim
