hi all
an update for those following this topic.
i have got the ibook set up in target mode connected to one of the
FW400 ports on my powerbook.
I've managed to get diskwarrior to run over the drive (it took all
night) and it reported 2 overlapped files which it couldn't fix.
i ran it again and it took 20 mins instead of 10 hours but still
couldn't fix.
I tried using silverkeeper to backup the entire drive onto my external
firewire drive which it couldn't do (must have run into the overlapped
files)
so now i have superduper copying the hd over onto a Read/Write
“Sparse” Image on my external fw drive. i can't do a straight copy as
the drive has over files on it and isn't partitioned.
this looks like its working but it running sooo slowly. effective copy
speed is now 0.29MB/s. I've got 30Gb to backup. based on this speed i
would guestimate another 20-25 odd hours to backup the volume which is
un practical as i have got to be in work in around 22 hours.
can anyone advise me of a better way to do this?
bear in mind - none of the data on the ibook is backed up.
the glitch that killed the ibook in the first place was due to a crash
in mail.
