What could make a sleeping Mac wake up on its own?

The Mac in question is a recently-bought Mini, running 10.4.3. It's located in a home-office I have. At various times I put it to sleep, usually by selecting Apple - Sleep. And indeed it does go to sleep, and the screen blanks. But on return to the office perhaps 20 minutes later I find that it is awake. What could be causing it to wake up?

Environment: there is a printer attached, and pretty much permanently switched on - this is an HP 8450. Wifi is turned off; instead, there is a permanent ethernet connection. Bluetooth is not enabled. Keyboard & mouse are USB.

When I put it to sleep I generally leave Safari & Mail running, but minimised (ie, in the Dock). Most times these (+ Finder) will be the only visible programs running.
