Hi all, I wonder if you can please help.
I have a mirror door G4 PowerMac, dual 1Gb, OS 10.3.8 that is getting
stuck when repairing permissions. Disk Utility gives this alert: "Disk
Utility Internal Error - Disk utility has lost its connection with the
Disk Management Tool and cannot continue. Please quit and relaunch Disk
Utility" Using Onyx to repair permissions simply gets stuck about half
way through.
I've run Disk Warrior and when that didn't help did a clean install,
again to no avail. Although the computer is working fine I feel that
this can't be right and disaster must be around the corner.
So, I made a bootable backup on a brand new LaCie FW400 using
SuperDuper, only to find that the G4 will not boot from it. I made it
the statup disk in System Prefs but it booted from the internal drive
system. Starting up holding the option key down, the FW drive icon did
not appear. Making the backup took about three attempts as SuperDuper
encountered various corrupt files on the way which I had to delete in
order to complete the backup.
It seems something bad has happened to the internal drive. I recently
caught a reckless client unplugging his firewire drive without
unmounting it; could this be the cause of the problems?
Any advice would be most welcome as I'm a bit stuck now!
Cheers
Bob
