hi macsters
I am in the market for a couple of fw webcams to connect a g3/400
imac (DV) to a g4/1000 pb for use with ichat av (we both run 10.3.9)
You can use USB cams if you get something like Maccam or IOXperts
drivers for Mac OS X. Be sure to check their lists for compatibility.
To do so you will also need the USB Webcam patch for iChatAV.
Maccam: http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/
IOXperts: http://www.ioxperts.com
iChatUSBCam: http://www.ecamm.com/mac/ichatusbcam/
I've used both Maccam and IOXperts drivers and although Maccam is
free it's not as good IMHO. The iChatUSBCam driver is ok, but be
aware it's not generally 100% stable, however it's not annoyingly
unstable if you get my drift.
does anyone have any recommendations? I'd rather not be buying
apples isight as i don't want to be spending £200 on 2 cams.
It seems like a stupid amount to pay, but if you want painless, good
quality iChat AV then they are worth it. They produce a gorgeous
image quality and the auto-focus is a real bonus - I used to go mad
having to refocus my USB camera every time i moved. Also they look
pretty ;o)
