You might need to lower your sights and go for some USB web cams and

I have a cheap (could be got for £25 if you looked around) D-Link
FireWire webcam that works fine with iChat (identifies as an iSight),
can stream 640x480 30fps video and has focus control, etc.
Unfortunately, I don't think they make 'em any more. See if you can pick
one up on eBay or in PCWorld (where they sometimes have old stock
floating around still)
