I am in the market for a couple of fw webcams to connect a g3/400 imac (DV) to a g4/1000 pb for use with ichat av (we both run 10.3.9)

You might need to lower your sights and go for some USB web cams and "low-fi" video, because the minimum requirements for video iChat'ing through Firewire according to Apple is a G3 600Mhz with Tiger. I can't find what it is for 10.3.9, but I have a feeling it might be higher, i.e. a G4.

I have a cheap (could be got for £25 if you looked around) D-Link FireWire webcam that works fine with iChat (identifies as an iSight), can stream 640x480 30fps video and has focus control, etc. Unfortunately, I don't think they make 'em any more. See if you can pick one up on eBay or in PCWorld (where they sometimes have old stock floating around still)
