Hi there

Just wondering if anyone else uses a classic compact mac for messing around with.

I have a Plus with an external 80MB Hard disk sat on my bench. I run System 6.0.8 on it and find it's pretty versatile (I think people forget just how much early stuff ran on System 6!!). I run a star map program on it that I was given called 'Voyager', as well as Word 5.1 and MacDraw 2 (still possibly the greatest vector drawing package I've used). Alas the only hope of networking is via LocalTalk, or a SCSI Ethernet unit (I don't have one).

I also have an SE/30 that decked out with a few more of the 'mod cons'. It's got a 50MHz accelerator in it, an Ethernet card, and a 500MB hard drive. It's running 7.1 with additional later extensions and will happily talk to anything on my network. I use that as a terminal for my server. Due to a config problem I haven't debugged in OS X it's actually faster to switch in the SE/30 and use it to SSH than use the terminal in OS X!!

Also 'knocking about' but not currently set up I have a Colour Classic 'Mystic' system running a full 33MHz/040 and a 601 PowerPC upgrade (great add-on board to look at but a total waste of time! ;o). I also have a Classic that someone gave me. It's not really all that useful and it's slower than the Plus (believe it or not - it's true!!). It's also a non-network machine.

I don't fire then up that often these days but when I do I never fail to enjoy using them.
