Getting to the top 20 of search engines can be done for free. I know, I've done it for more than a few sites.
Doing it isn't that hard, you just have to *focus* on a lot of little things and do them right: Make a keyword list - what words are people searching with?; Write copy that uses your keywords; Use ALT tags - search robots don't see graphics, all they can see is ALT tags; Remember that Flash animation and other fancy stuff does not enhance your search engine listings - so only use them when absolutely necessary. Sure, they're cool, but they don't do squat for your rankings. Stay focused if you really are serious about higher rankings. If you do these things using good keywords and copy, you're well on your way to the top. Just don't submit your site to the search engines until you are done building it correctly and writing all the copy. Then you should constantly review your site and web stats and make sure that your copy and keywords are relevant.
