I haven't been completely following this discussion and I'm not sure if
I'm responding to something which I think is something else, but I just
want to say that I far prefer having each individual app (writer, calc,
impress, etc.) show up in the Applications folder, each with its own
icon and splashscreen. It's really annoying to have one OOo icon and
then have to select which program to open after already opening OOo.
Maybe both methods could be worked in.

The opposite is imho the solution: one application, asking what,
through 6 possibilities. imho, the "New" OpenOffice.org menu is
wrongly designed too in that sense.
