Hi all, Stephan, Joachim,

since DEV300_m5 Java isn't detected automaticly under Mac OS X
10.5.x at first launch of the upcomming OpenOffice.org 3.0 beta.
Whenever someone uses the Letter Assistent or something else
needing Java he gets an error telling him that JRE isn't detected
and that OpenOffice.org needs a working JRE for this function.
Adding System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0
under Tools->Options-OpenOffice.org->Java solves the problem.

The problem only occured when DEV300_m5+ were build using Leopard.
Building m5+ using Tiger the JRE got detected. Since we support
10.4. with 3.0 and build under Tiger it's ok but with m7 that I
rebuild using Tiger this no longer worked for me. A m7 build using
Tiger didn't detect the JRE under Leopard.

Five more people reported me that even the 2.4.0 Version couldn't
find Java and even echoed "No JRE found" when launched via command
line in Terminal. This again only appeared under Mac OS X 10.5.x In
the 2.4.0 case even pointing OOo manually to the right direction,
which I assume is
System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0 didn't
solve the problem for all the users. Afaik 2.4.0 is build by Maho
using Tiger. In the end feedback from the users was sort of nice
try but we (continue) to use NeoOffice which has a working
detection of Java under Leopard.

Be aware that this problem may not be present on your Leopard
installation but it occures for me, it's annoying and it frustrates
average joe. Once we may release another Aqua Snapshot or the Beta
and more users will face this problem and all we say the issue
won't fix because it works for me.

This is DEV300_m5 up to m7 under Mac OS X 10.5.2.
which java gives me "usr/bin/java"
xdsl-87-78-215-250:Kompilieren ooobuild$ java -version
java version "1.5.0_13"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build
1.5.0_13-b05-237)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_13-119, mixed mode, sharing)

I tried to use
--with-jdk-home=/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0/Home/

and
--with-jdk-home=/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Home as
configure options.

Please reply to the mailinglist.

Regards,
Eric Hoch
