Without wishing to start an argument, mixing C and Objective-C
couldn't be easier. If you have some other reason for avoiding the
existing project, e.g., avoiding linking against Cocoa frameworks, you
should say so. The point as I see it is that unless you give a
compelling reason why it isn't easier for you to mix C and Objective-C
than for somebody here to write code for you, I don't see the latter
happening. (You might of course get lucky and find someone who's
already written it!)
