Yes, it is so in Leopard, but Apple's definition of "over network connections" is literally that: a *hardcoded* list containing "smbfs", "afpfs", "nfs", and "webdavfs". System software (including the Finder, of course) relies on these literal names instead of checking whether the "local" bit is set or not. This is also the reason why Apple- defined "remote" file systems show up in the Finder sidebar on Leopard, but MacFUSE file systems don't by default, even though they *are* "remote".
