I've been grappling with this as well -- in my case for encfs rather than macfusion. The new MBPs default to a 64-bit kernel (as opposed to the previous generation which were capable of it, but defaulted to 32-bit). Unless you really need this (as opposed to 64-bit everything- else), just set it back to 32-bit and reinstall. This worked for me. The problem is that the switch to a proper 64-bit kernel extension is quite difficult. There are some workarounds but unless you're willing to take the associated risks, dropping back to a 32-bit kernel is the safest solution. According to Apple,
sudo systemsetup -setkernelbootarchitecture i386 After a reboot and reinstall, macfuse worked fine for me.
