I reformatted and partitioned the hard drive on my ibook. I installed jaguar
on the largest partition and using software restore reinstalled the software
that came with the machine, except OS 9.2. I didn't install 9.2 because the
software restore disk wouldn't let me put it on a separate partition.

Next I booted the computer with the os9 cd. When I ran the install program,
I was told the install program wouldn't work on my computer.

I had a second copy of os 9 and booted the computer from that cd and the
same thing happened.

Next I used the software restore cd and put classic on the osx partition.
Then I rebooted the machine into classic and popped the os 9 cd in the drive
and attempted to install 9 on its own partition. It still indicated the
installer would not work on this machine.

When I started this message I wanted to get the exact wording of the above
message so I popped the os9 cd into the drive rebooted and clicked on the
install program and it worked - curious.

When I restarted the computer on the os9 partition it froze - fatal error
with a bomb. I ctrl-cmd reset and the program froze again.
The third time I held down the cmd and option keys and rebuilt the desktop
on the os9 partition it seemed to work.

I am going to play with the os 9 partition some more. If it is stable is it
safe to remove classic from the os x partiton? If I can safely remove it,
will jaguar find classic on the classic partition?

Better yet, am I wasting my time? Should I forget about the classic
partition and leave things as they are?

Thanks for reading through all this. And thanks for your help.
