I have a G4 desktop computer. In 2001 I purchased a KDS LCD monitor and an ATI Xclaim 3d video card. I installed the card, hooked the monitor up and voila, everything worked fine.
Recently (and I don't know if it was before I installed panther or after, the KDS monitor quit working and I sent it back to the company for repair. After I removed it from the computer the computer continued to act as if I had a second monitor attached (ie I could move windows off the main screen onto the second screen-even though it wasn't there-and then I couldn't retrieve them because I couldn't find them to lock on them with the mouse). I removed the video card. The monitor was returned today. I reinstalled the video card, hooked the monitor to it and when I booted the picture on the LCD monitor is gray and looks like a solarized or posterized photo-not good for a computer screen. I removed the LCD monitor and hooked it up to a PC and it works fine. I hooked the LCD monitor to the main video input on the g4 and it works fine. I reseated the video card and hooked the monitor to it restarted and it's as I described above. I moved the card to a different PCI slot and it didn't affect the monitor. THEN I rebooted the computer in 9.2 and the monitor works fine. So I booted the monitor in jaguar and the monitor works fine. I booted back into panther and the monitor does not work fine! As I said, I don't remember if I installed panther before or after I removed the video card. Bottom line, the monitor works, the video card works but not in panther. What gives and how can I correct the problem? Thanks | The next meeting of the Louisville Computer Society will | be March 23.
