Mmm, no, though the way the terms get used, it might seem like it.
It might help the think of QuickTime as being a standard kind outer
wrapping (envelope or big box) for various kinds of audio and video
files, each of which can be in a different format (MP3, h.264, Motion
JPEG, etc.) called a codec. Apps that can read the QuickTime format
know how to open the envelope (box) and get the file inside. Usually
if they do that they can also play the format the inside file has
been encoded in, but not always. QuickTime Player (supplied by Apple
Computer, Inc) is one such app that knows how to open the box, there
are other apps that can also read the QuickTime format and ply the
files inside, all for your viewing/listening pleasure.

Someday, I will come up with a clever signature line. I am not sure
if I will use it or not, but I will come up with one. In the mean
time this next one will have to do:

'W' Is for wiretap.
