QuickTime Pro gives you authoring capabilities instead of just player
capabilities. Very useful if you want to create QT based stuff. For
more info, check out: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/upgrade/
The version does not really matter in the sense that QTPro is different
than QT 6.3, the Pro version is also 6.3.
To get the pro version, you buy a license from Apple, they send you a
license number by email, then enter the number in the registration tab
of the QT preferences pane and you are now a Pro User -- grin.
The history has been that you need a new license with each major
upgrade, ie. version 4 to 5, and then version 5 to 6. We have not had
to buy new licenses with the minor upgrades i.e. 6 to 6.1 to 6.2 to 6.3
etc.
Note: some external softwares give you a pro license when you install
their software.
