A Macron can be made in the characters palate. Systems Prefs,  
International, Input tab, check show in menubar. The characters  
palate can then be opened from the menubar. Select View: Roman,  
Accented Latin, then look for the letter/typestyle you need with the  
macron, select it, then click on the large letter symbol. The letter  
w/ macro will be inserted at the cursor of your open document. ? ? ?

I don't know of any keyboard modifier for a macro...jf
