Hi,

Although Mac Trojans are not very common,I was not aware of this one,
until I was updating my virex checker this morning and visited their
site
for a update....

http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_125299.htm

At first I thought this applied to the Office update I just downloaded
from MS last night (which subsequently the install, didn't work at all)
so at first glance I thought this might have been the reason. Bugaboo?

This new Mac trojan, this one spoofs the new Micro$oft Office 2004
software for the Mac,
just released this past week... Obviously this one is supposed to hook
those who are trying to download the new version for free?

From reading the news release at CNet
http://news.com.com/2110-7343_3-5215995.html?tag=st.lh

I can see now that the REAL Microsoft new Office 2004 is not available
for the PRO version, until the 4th quarter!!! (This may have caused my
update problem in part, since I have the PRO version, and didn't
realize the updates are different)

Looks like the new PRO version, is being held up by Virtual PC 7.0
version, (which the PRO version includes) since the VPC problems in
design upgrade are mainly caused from the new architecture of the G5.
This six month delay is unfortunate for me, using the Office PRO
version, since the problems with the VPC new version, won't affect
those, like me, who only use G4 machines. This is a pretty Bad domino
effect for the most expensive of all the Macintosh bundled software
packages from MS.

I think they should just release Office 2004 to me now, and update the
Virtual PC whenever they get it done- because knowing MS, it might take
another year to get the VPC 7.0 version done... (I wish Connectix had
never sold Virtual PC to Microsoft.... !)

Btw, Those that don't have a virus checker, ought to download the Free
Virex beta software for macs--(at that link listed above) which can
help to detect most of these new Mac OSX threats.
Yours,
Kay
