Hey, everybody! My name is Jonathan Fletcher and I will be the presenter at this month's Mac's Anonymous, er, ah, LCS meeting, where I will expound on the finer points of the number two desktop database in the world, FileMaker Pro. (In case you were wondering: Access is number one, probably solely due to the fact that it comes in the Office for Windows box. Aren't monopolies great?)
Background: I started developing in FoxPro about '89 until Microsoft bought the company and simply destroyed what had been a great product. I found FileMaker in '97 and have worked with it ever since. I even attended the FileMaker Developers conference in San Diego in 2000. A very humbling experience, let me tell you. Although FMP is platform agnostic, I am not. I am a dyed-in-the wool Mac Bigot and have owned several Macs since my first 128K original Mac bought in 1985. I have been on Panther for two weeks now and can't see why anyone would settle for anything less. The main reason for this note: I have quite a few bullet points on my presentation notes, but I would also like to get some feedback on what you might all be interested in. First, tell me how much experience you've had with FileMaker, if any. Then let me know any questions you might have rolling around in the back of your mind about FMP as a workgroup database tool and as a development environment. Please respond to me directly rather than taking up bandwidth on the list. (Unless y'all WANT to discuss it here, of course.) Thanks!!! Looking forward to meeting you all! j. -- Jonathan Fletcher jfletch at newmediaconstco.com NewMedia Construction Company | The next meeting of the Louisville Computer Society will | be November 25.
