Hi Diane,

When you boot up holding down the Option Key, do you see your CD icon in the
middle of the screen with a right arrow to the right?

If so:
Your procedure is correct.
Strongly implies that your hard disk has failed

If not:
Boot your Mac by holding down the option key immediately upon power up.
Keep it held down until you see icons in the middle of your screen.

What happened?

Subject: MacGroup: the dreaded blinking question mark

My husband's ibook locked up, and when we restarted we get the blinking
question mark. We have tried starting up from the CD (running 10.3),
but it does not seem to recognize any startup disk. I have tried the
10.0 CD, the 10.1 CD, and the 9.2 CD. I found on Apple how to hold down
option at startup and bring up the Startup Manager, but again, it will
not read a startup disk. Any other suggestions or do we need to take it
on a little trip to MacTown?

Thanks in advance
Diane
