The little 4GB drive on my beige G3 filled up, but I was reluctant to get rid of anything. So I bought a 40GB drive, opened up the G3, removed the CD drive, and plugged the new drive into the CD's two cables. The new drive mounted, so I formatted and partitioned the new drive using the old drive, then copied (dragged) the stuff on the four partitions of the old drive over to the partitions on the new drive. Then I booted and ran from the new drive to test it. It was OK, so I put the new drive in place of the old drive, and put the CD drive back in.
