IP: internet protocol, including things for mail, logging in remotely
and such.
FW: firewall

The IPFW is used to limit access to a machine by the services which
are offered, and by the originating IP address. The sharing
preference pane configures an IPFW, but not with the fineness allowed
a real network tinker.
