Mike, your advice is sound as it regards text in general. In HTML it's a matter of getting a character without resorting to Unicode. Rex kindly supplied "•" HTML speak for bullet. On a hunch, I cut and pasted a Zypf bullet character into a new BBEdit document, and discovered "●" in the error messages?very close to Rex's suggestion?and exactly what I needed...jf
