It's been a long time, Russ, but as I recall, I had an Epson C80 printer
(since replaced) and a Microtek scanner attached through the hub. The 'puter
is
an IMac G4 1GHz -- the one that looks like half a basketball. I would put it
to sleep, then when I tried to wake it up, I would get that scary screen with
four or five languages, all telling me I had to restart the Mac. Someone
somewhere online (can't remember where) reported the same problem and suggested
I try disconnecting the hub. Once I did, the problem disappeared. I know
this is the problem; occasionally I hook up the scanner through the hub and
forget to disconnect it before putting 'puter to sleep; same thing happens.

While we're at it, here's another longstanding nag: often, when I try to
sign on to aol, I get a message reporting that the computer can't communicate
with the modem. Hey, the modem is internal -- isn't all this stuff hardwired?

This error message is erratic; sometimes I have to hit "continue" as much as
five times before it connects. Sometimes only two or three. Sometimes not
at all. And sometimes, after hitting "continue" five times, I get the
orginal aol welcome screen and have to start all over again. When that
doesn't
work, I find that restarting the computer cures the problem -- for a time.
Then it starts all over again. And the time lapse before it starts again
varies widely. ????
