Have them call AppleCare directly - 1-800-275-2273 (1-800-APL-CARE)
or visit an Apple Store. All Nanos should still be under warranty.
The first Nanos were introduced in early September 2005, and all come
with a one year warranty. If the iPod is more than 6 months old,
Apple online will charge $30 for a "battery disposal fee." However,
most Apple stores, such as Indy and Cincy will replace them at no
charge.

Hope this helps!
