1) Try restarting the finder:

hold down the command, option and esc keys at the same time. This
should pop up a little window that allows you to quit applications.
Select Finder and choose Relaunch.

2) For some additional stuff on Safari:

Deleting the Safari preference file If you are still having problems
with Safari intermittently crashing under Mac OS X 10.3.9 after trying
the workarounds posted in the past several days, try deleting the file:
com.apple.Safari.plist
from the folder ~/Library/Preferences and restarting Safari.

3) How comfortable are you at using Single User start-up mode?
(Hold down the command and s keys while starting the machine)
This will bring up an old text-style window (waaaay back from the old
Apple ][ dyas -- or DOS days). Follow the instructions for repair that
pop up.
Note: if you are really comfortable you can navigate over to where
PithHelmet lives and zap the thing.

Alternatively start up from the OS-X CD, repair things and navigate to
PH and zap it (your internal hard drive will be mounted like an
external hard drive since you are running from the CD).

Someday, I will come up with a clever signature line. I am not sure if
I will use it or not, but I will come up with one.
