I can second the endorsement of Gmail. The search is awesome, and the threaded email display is very cool. Much better than either Hotmail or Yahoo Mail.
Just a word of caution--since Google is trying to serve contextually relevant advertising next to your email, it means their system is scanning your messages for keywords. Make sure you read the terms of service carefully, if you have any privacy concerns. --- Rex. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:owner-macgroup at erdos.math.louisville.edu] On Behalf Of Alex Whitman Sent: Thursday, June 24, 2004 6:50 PM To: macgroup at erdos.math.louisville.edu Subject: MacGroup: Google's Gmail I've been playing with Google's new web-based email for the past couple of weeks. It is still in beta testing, so it isn't perfect yet, and it doesn't have all the features one might hope for, but those should be coming along soon. What it does have is 1GB of storage per account, and the ability to do a google-powered search within your own account. ("Hmm, I remember reading a couple of months ago about how to zap pram..." With gmail, you can build your own fully searchable MacGroup archives!) Because it's still in beta, accounts are by invitation only. I have 4 invitations to give away. If you want one, email me with your first and last name and a working email address. First come, first served!
