Hi Justin,

I have a Benwin <www.benwin.com> set of powered flat-panel speakers I bought
two years ago for about $40 from MacZone. <www.maczone.com> I wouldn?t play
the 1812 Overture through them but they play my iTunes collection of ?60s
rock ?n? roll at comfortable volume levels.

I checked MacZones' web site and they offer a similar set (Benwin CLT-30)
for $35. See the following web page:

http://www.maczone.com/cgi-bin/zones/site/product/index.html?id=000554430

Clicking ?View Similar Products
on that page will show 20 or so other
powered speakers priced up to about $100.

A lot of other vendors offer audio systems for computers but this should
start you off.

Keep in mind you want ?powered
speakers since the amplifiers in your laptop
will not provide enough power to drive external speakers.

Good luck

Tom,

Just remembered that I once had an pair of stereo speakers (Sony SRS-PC50)
connected to a desktop tower Mac that mounted on either side of the monitor
and did not have a subwoofer. They were made by Sony and were priced around
$50 as I recall. Sony also made several models that stood upright on the
top of your desk.

They would be OK for travel mode.
