The messages are not stored individually. I don't use the OSX mail
program, I use powermail. The powermail database is stored as follows:


myharddrive//users//myusername//mail//powermail files


If it were me I would make a copy of the mail database, then delete the
offending message without opening it. Then in the mailbox menu I would
select erase deleted messages. And then I would select the rebuild
mailbox option in the mailbox menu.

BUT before I did any of that, I would get a second opionion, if I were
you, that is. Because who knows if I know what I'm talking about!
