I would guess that the foam pad would work just as well, if not
better for protection. unless it was rubbing against the LCD.

I think that the main protective point of the radtech cloth is that
it's not really obtrusive. when you open the laptop, you can wipe off
the screen to remove any dust, then fold it up, off to the side. I
imagine that would be a little more difficult with the foam. (as a
side note, when i received my powerbook, there was no foam between
the screen and the keys...)

as for the cleaning part, I do think that it's more effective than an
old t-shirt. the material is hard to describe, but it's very soft.
kind of similar to cleaning cloths used for jewelry, except much
thinner.
it seems to have done a better job at cleaning old LCD screens than
other soft cloths and water that i've used.

but, having said that, it's just a piece of material, I don't think
that there are any chemical on it, so it can't be that much better,
right?
anyway, I'm happy with the purchase, as it comes in handy (especially
when showing pictures to people, and they ALWAYS want to touch the
screen).

i think they are having a 30% off sale for the next few days, if you
use some promo code...
