Well here is a new app that lets dashboard wigets on your desktop. Amnesty Widget Browser is a utility that allows Apple Dashboard widgets to live directly on the Desktop via an icon in the system menu bar.*Widgets loaded in Amnesty Widget Browser run completely independent of the Dashboard environment, maintain their own preferences and feature additional properties such as window depth and opacity.
Amnesty Widget Browser also functions as a rapid testing environment for widget developers or users who wish to try out third-party widgets without restarting Dashboard. The public beta version of Amnesty Widget Browser is immediately available for download at http://www.mesadynamics.com and requires Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:owner-macgroup at erdos.math.louisville.edu]On Behalf Of Henri Yandell Sent: Tuesday, May 03, 2005 8:39 AM To: macgroup at erdos.math.louisville.edu Subject: Re: MacGroup: Tiger - Dashboard? Yeah, this is largely a choice of whether I should buy Konfabulator or rely on Tiger someday :) Of course, I'll be lured into Tiger anyway if I want to be able to do Java development (75% of my laptop usage) but I'm setting a Linux laptop up to possibly take that over. Tired of paying money to Apple for a Java upgrade (when other platforms are free). Downsides for Konfabulator, I have to buy a separate Windows and Mac licence and there's no Linux version. I played with Konfabulator a while back and found it very useful to have half-a-dozen or more widgets running on the background that let me see the state of the machine, my network and development environments (build status etc). All view only. I didn't find the interactive widgets to be of a lot of use, but that'll be up to user.
