Ok, here I come: I had set my finder-pref-advanced- show all extensions
to "show" all extension files, so I could determine just by looking
what kind of file i was dealing with. Now I tried to eliminate this (
just for an exercise) Well, unclicking the box did not do it. I
rebooted, it did not do it, I tried to eliminate just one from an icon
on the desktop, ( to get rid of a .cwk or a .doc. But the extensions
stay happily there. ) With the one icon at a time I highlight the
icon, go to finder-file, select get info, click the "hide ext. box" -
but nothing happens. Where am I amiss?
