I know next to nothing about setting up sftp, but we had it a while back.
We got rid of it because the Mac users had a hard time connecting to it. I
remember something about port 22 needing to be open for sftp, while ftp
uses ports 20 & 21. We just had an Xserve ftp server set up using ports 20
& 21. Of course, we made it more Mac freindly this time. ;-))

Lowest denominator in these cases can be to install unix on windows. ie)
Put Cygwin on the machine, you'll get OpenSSH's server daemon which comes
with SFTP by default. Not run it before, but I imagine it should work.

If you search for ssh servers for windows, you might find that they quietly
support sftp. It's usually kind of an after-thought :)

  Hey folks,

Perhaps one of the folks that has to deal with Windows from day to

Can sftp servers be set up in Windoze? Here at Bellarmine, they gave
me some web space, and are allowing me to ftp to it. I asked about
sftp (so that I wouldn't have to use something so insecure as ftp),
and was told that "I was thinking 'unix', but they had a windows
network, and that sftp couldn't be set up for windows." This has got
to be hogwash, I would think, but my google searches have not turned
anything up for serving sftp from windoze. Is it really this bad?

ftp: file transfer protocol -- an old, reliable way to copy files
from one machine to another over the internet.

sftp: secure ftp -- a newer protocol which does ftp in an encrypted
fashion, so that passwords and contents of files cannot be sniffed.

sniffing: listening to network activity and pulling off info bound
for another machine. Ought to be called nettapping.
