The answer is a modified version of answer a. The answer is:

a1. After Jan 1 all new computers purchased from Apple will have the 
ability to boot into only OS X. Booting into OS 9 will be impossible. 
The classic environment will still be available though.

It is important to understand that Apple is not going to slip in a 
software update that disables OS 9 on your current machine. I imagine 
Apple will disable OS through hardware of OF.

  But if your wanting to run Quark in OS 9 on a newer machine, now's the 
time to buy.
