Since my house has been Ethernetted for years, I've never been tempted
to go wireless. But, I just got a new iBook (14/700), and an AirPort
card, so I decided to take the plunge and get a wireless base station.

The Apple AirPort base station is outrageously expensive at $300, so I
started looking around. I decided to take a chance on the NetGear MR314
that's available all over the 'Net for about $100. I bought it from
Circuit City on Shelbyville road for $99, after a couple of rebates.

It works perfectly with the iBook and the Insight cable broadband, and
it was really easy to set up.

I have it in a temporary location in a far corner of the
basement--probably the worst location I could have found outside of the
refrigerator--and I can wander all over the house with a strong signal
everywhere. If it ever stops raining, I'll see how far out in the yard
I can go.
