Hi Jane, I'm assuming you're running OS 9? It sounds like your internet access is working as expected so you may have a specific IE problem. Try removing your existing IE preferences (just temporarily move them to the desktop), relaunch IE and see if things work. (You want to remove the Explorer folder within your Preferences Folder).
If things work, you probably have a damaged IE preference(s). If not, you may want to try and reinstall IE.
