The simple system is to have a single firewall/router conencted to the DSL
link. Then the network internally is wide open. This is akin to putting a
big guard at the front of the building. It does work most of the time and
should be sufficient for a home network. Major issue with it is if you
have a wireless network.

I'm not on airport per se [airport cards, netgear router] but the wireless
router itself serves as my front-door firewall. Then I use 128 WEP to
encrypt the wireless channel.

It's not perfectly secure, but the range isn't stunning as far as I can
tell and I don't expect the neighbours to hack in too much.
