I think the easiest thing to do is stick a firewall between your DSL 
modem and your hub. That way you don't have to worry too much about the 
home network because it's automatically protected. I use a NetGear 
router for this. It allows me to limit the services accessible from the 
outside and also maps external ports to particular internal machines. 
Similar boxes are available for $50-100 from our favorite toy stores.
