Today I got my new MacBook from Apple to replace the defective 12"
Powerbook that I ordered (refurbished) in January.

They sent me the new black 2.0GHz Core Duo model.

My First Impressions (not that they are special, it seems everyone is
reviewing the things lately):

The thing is gorgeous! The matte black finish really looks incredible
in person. It looks much more classy and professional than the shiny
white iBook G4 that we have. I was worried that I wouldn't like black
model because I really liked the aluminum casing on my Powerbook, but
I'm not disappointed. A very sleek design.

The screen on it is fantastic. MUCH better than on my 12" PB or
iBook. I know that some people have had some issues with the "glossy"
screen, but I think that it looks magnitudes better. Also, I've had
no problems with screen glare, even in different settings and with a
lamp right next to the MacBook. Tomorrow I will try it outside and
see how it performs. The 12"ers that I had were basically useless in
sunlight.

Also, the higher resolution and widescreen display makes a huge
difference. it is certainly worth the size trade-off.

As for general performance, 512mb RAM is a joke. It's super-snappy
if there is only one or two programs open, or Rossetta doesn't have
to kick in, but otherwise it's slow. I've got 1gb stick of RAM on the
way, with the other coming after payday. this should make a large
difference.

I did hear the infamous "mooing" of the fan when the machine got
between 67 an 70 degrees (C). But it's not really loud, or that big
of a deal. I do hope that Apple fixes the issue with a software/
firmware update soon though.

If anyone has any questions, or would like to see it run through a
particular test, let me know,

Rick

(BTW, iPhoto on this thing screams! Even with just 512 of RAM, I
can't go back to looking at iPhoto on my fiances iBook as it makes it
seem dog slow)
